Fight the New Drug doesn’t write petitions, march on state capitol grounds, or make banning porn our end goal.

What Fight the New Drug does do is:

We do all of these things because everyone deserves healthy relationships and real love, not false expectations.

Why Fight the New Drug Doesn’t Take the Legislative Route

Fight the New Drug’s goal has never been to ban adults from consuming legal forms of pornography, even though consuming it does have unhealthy effects. Note that we don’t even have the power or connections to get porn banned in the first place. Still, it is important that we give props to our friends at organizations that do focus on taking political action, they do important work and we applaud them for their efforts.

Though our organization is non-legislative, we fully support the regulation of already illegal forms of pornography and sexual exploitation, including the fight against sex trafficking. We believe that raising awareness is better than blanketed bans because no matter the law, the porn industry will still operate and influence underground. However, we believe stopping the huge demand for porn by educating people about the dangerous and toxic porn industry can truly make a difference in decreasing the demand and helping to heal those suffering from pornography compulsion or addiction, or even sexual exploitation.

Education Can Decrease Demand

History has taught that bans don’t work; instead, they tend to add fuel to the flame by making the illegal substance or activity illicitly attractive. A much more effective way to decrease the demand for pornography is to make people aware of its unfortunate reality.

Porn is a public health concern, but Fight the New Drug is not working to make already legal forms of porn illegal. We do, however, fight against the production, distribution, and viewing of already illegal forms of porn, including child exploitation images (child porn) and other forms of image-based abuse shared on porn sites. We also strive to educate that the pornography industry is tightly linked to global sex trafficking.

Bottom line: we aren’t here to bully lawmakers into outlawing porn, we’re here to get to the deeper source of the issue and educate people on the very real harms of porn, and then let them decide for themselves. Because someone deciding against something freely is much more effective than forcing someone to do something they don’t agree with.

Fight the New Drug believes that if people truly understood how pornography can negatively affect the consumer, relationships, and society, and understood the often exploitative ways the industry operates, they would choose for themselves not to support or engage with porn.

Fight the New Drug’s Mission

From our beginning in 2009, Fight the New Drug’s mission has been to utilize awareness and education to lessen the demand for sexual exploitation. Our mission is to focus on honest conversations, real love, and the power to influence long-lasting change in individual hearts.

Additionally, Fight the New Drug supports:

Why do we put so much effort into the fight against porn? Because research shows porn can:

  • Harm individuals
  • Damage relationships
  • Hurt communities
